New Book Requesting Method!

In order to get books from the SFSU library, you must request them online. They will be brought to the HSS Building so you can check them out.  Watch a quick video on how to request books online:

 

Search Tips

Topic searching specifically for primary sources:
  • Perform a KEYWORD search.
  • Add (by using the word AND) one of the following terms to your search: Archives, Correspondence, Diaries, Interviews, Personal Narratives, Manuscripts, Sources, or Speeches(example: women and abolitionist movement and sources)

Title
searching:
  • Perform a TITLE search.
  • Type in the title of the book or microfilm set.

Date searching (for older books):
  • Access the Advanced Search
  • Type in search words related to your topic
  • Type in dates (to and from) for the publication years in which you are interested
 

Books Online

  • GOOGLE BOOKS  
    Digitized books, many of which are older and can be considered primary sources. Access to books still under copyright is limited.

1. LINK+: Lets you borrow books (for free!) from more than 30 California libraries. Books usually arive within 3-5 days.

  • Search for specific titles or by topic.
  • Click on REQUEST THIS ITEM to order the book.

 

2. WORLDCAT: Books at libraries nationwide.

  • Search for specific titles or by topic.
  • To order the books you locate, first search InvestiGator (the library catalog) to see if we have the book here at SFSU. If we do not, SFSU students, faculty and staff may request (free of charge) books through Document Delivery Services.  Try Link+ first; if it's not available there, use the iLLiad service.  This process can take anywhere between 3 days - 3 weeks, so you need to plan ahead!
