New Book Requesting Method!
In order to get books from the SFSU library, you must request them online. They will be brought to the HSS Building so you can check them out. Watch a quick video on how to request books online:
Finding Books
If you are just starting out with your research and don't yet know much about your topic you are researching, you may want to do a broad search by keyword or subject. A keyword search is less specific than a subject search, and may pull up different results. Once you find a library catalog record that interests you, click on the link to go to that specific catalog record. You can find out more about the book you are interested in by clicking on the "details" tab. It is also helpful to note what the Library of Congress Subject Heading is. Clicking on that subject heading in the library catalog will get you into a more specific area of material. Of course, the more information you have about the book, the quicker you can find it. You can also search by title, author (composer/group), Library of Congress Call Number, and Other. To select a search method, click on the appropriate circle under the menu tabs
Beginning Sunday evening, November 23, you will need to request books you want from the Library online.
Here’s how:
1. Search Library Catalog
2. Click “Save to Book Bag” for each book you want
3. After selecting desired titles, click “View Book Bag”
4. Click “Request Book Bag” to request the items in your Book Bag
5. Enter your name, SF State ID number and Library PIN
6. Click “Submit”
UPDATE! The room location for book retrieval has been changed! Books requested are now picked up and checked out in one location. HSS 102 is the new location for pickup.
The books you request will be retrieved from the Library and delivered to HSS 102 on weekdays within 24 hours. You can review the books to decide which ones you want to check out. If you decide you don't want the books you requested after review, just drop them back into the book return.
Library Closure and Electronic Books
Hopefully by now you've become aware of the Library Construction project. The library is doing our best to communicate what is happening, but many of you are feeling frustrated by access problems and confusion. If you are really in a pickle and need material more quickly than the turn-around required for paging print materials, there are electronic options that allow for remote access. With these e-books, you can download and read the material you might be interested in anywhere you have an internet connection. Here is how you can find electronic books in our catalog.
Go to the Leonard Library catalog and do a keyword search for an area of interest, such as this. In these records, you will see under the status area that it says ON-LINE. This is the code for a book that is available via the internet. If you are off-campus you will still need to use your SFSU ID and LIBRARY PIN to authenticate yourself as being an SFSU affiliate.
There is also another way to "limit" your search results so that your results list only shows these ON-LINE materials. Use the location INTERNET in the ADVANCED SEARCH MODE.
